Finally!
After a whole year waiting on my hard drive, I found the time to edit and upload this video from the 2012 race. The course has not changed for 2013, and hopefully won’t either for 2014. See you there!
I was bored last winter. Turbo trainer and treadmill didn’t cut it!
This year I decided I’d go play in the mud, and with this lovely entry level Boardman, I should be able to do just this!
I’m already registered to the HumanRace Off-road winter series, which will hopefully break the monotony of road triathlon training!
ready to "test"
first ride: done!
already dirty!
After Ironman 70.3 Zell Am See 5 weeks before Lanzarote, both Ellen and I fell ill for the whole of that time: never ending cold from being soaked through on race day, then frozen on the plane journey back, then in the midst of the september bug that always catches everyone out around the offices. This Lanzarote race couldn’t have been set-up worse for us, but the weather couldn’t have been more different either…
Finish line!

Ellen and I registered for the Ironman 70.3 Austria in Zell am See a very long time ago. But like all races, it seemed to creep in on us very quickly at the end of a summer of hard training. We arrived in Zell am See on Thursday. Although it’s very easy access from Salszburg airport with about 1h15 of very easy driving and only one road change, there may have been direct flights to Munich which could have saved an airport transfer. But even with a stopover in Frankfurt, it was a non-stress travel and we had two fantastic days before the race.

2 weeks after IM Lanzarote this race was a bit early to have recovered well, or regain proper focus, but I had entered it well before Lanza, and I absolutely had to do it to finally get over my unfinished business in the New Forest.
So it was a bit like a tourist that I went there, only initially wanting see how I would race being a bit tired, and also to give Matthew from D3 Triathlon a good kick in the backside and motivate him to go faster!

If you had told me a couple of years back that I would finish one of the renown toughest ironman races on the circuit, I would have laughed at you. Ironman Lanzarote was the first race of my bucket list, so it was mostly about finishing and having a good time, but I’m happy that I have more than honored my training and the people that keep supporting me.
On a personal level, this was a fantastic race and a dream come true on many levels. Forget the finish time, it’s good indeed and I’m really happy about it, but enjoyment was the goal and I really had a blast!
